Studio workspace

Edit instances, properties, and scripts in the Studio workspace.

Studio edits a place through a 3D viewport, an instance hierarchy, property editors, and a script editor. Open a project using Getting started before following these procedures.

Select and edit instances

Explorer displays the place's instance hierarchy. Select an instance in Explorer or the viewport to inspect it in Properties. Properties depend on the selected class; the class reference documents their types and behavior.

Right-click an instance in Explorer and choose Insert to add a child. Select a creatable class from the list. For a physical object, insert a Part under Workspace, then edit its Size, Position, and Anchored properties. The viewport shows the edited part. Anchored prevents physics from moving it during simulation.

Use Home → Undo and Home → Redo to move through document edits. Select Home → Save to persist the current document. Project files and source layouts are described in Projects and places.

Edit scripts

Open a Script, LocalScript, or ModuleScript from Explorer to edit its source. A Script contains server code, a LocalScript contains client code, and a ModuleScript returns a value to callers of require. Execution also depends on placement and context; see Server and client.

The editor provides diagnostics for script source. Open Test → Problems to inspect reported problems and Test → Output to inspect runtime messages. Errors and debugging covers script error handling.

Arrange panels

The View tab has controls for Explorer, Properties, and Console. Use these controls to show a panel that is hidden. The Test tab opens the Output and Problems views within the console.

Test changes

Select Test → Play to start the open content in a separate runtime process. Select Test → Stop to end it. Runtime changes do not update the authored document. Playtesting describes local multiplayer sessions and the debugger controls.
