Playtesting

Run local games, test multiple clients, and inspect runtime output.

Studio playtests run a snapshot of the open project in separate runtime processes. A test can run one local client or a dedicated server with clients.

Run a local game

  1. Open a project and select Test → Play.
  2. Inspect the game window and open Test → Output in Studio for runtime messages. Open Test → Problems for script diagnostics.
  3. Select Test → Stop when finished. The runtime processes stop and Studio removes the temporary snapshot.

The snapshot includes the current open content. In a game project, Studio packs the open game's places for the test. Runtime instance and property changes are not written back to the authored document. Save authored changes with Home → Save before closing Studio.

If a test fails to start, read its error in Output, correct the named project or runtime problem, then select Play again.

Test multiplayer

On the Test tab, open Multiplayer and select a server-only session, one client with a server, or a session with two or four clients. Studio starts the server on a local port, waits for it to become ready, then connects the clients.

Each client runs in a separate process. Use this mode to check server authority, remote calls, and client-local state. The Server and client guide describes which instances and scripts belong on each side.

Select Test → Stop to terminate the session's processes. If the server does not become ready, Studio reports a startup failure. Inspect Output for the server error before starting another session.

Debug scripts

The Test tab provides Debugger, breakpoint controls, Pause, Continue, and stepping controls. Pause and stepping require a debugged run; they are disabled when no debugged runtime is running. When execution is paused, use Continue to resume it or a stepping control to advance the selected script.

Test an export

Playtesting uses the editor's runtime configuration. Before distributing a game, also launch its exported executable and check the game with its exported assets and persistence settings. Exporting games describes the build report and verification command.
