Open Asterune
Getting started

Getting started

Create a project in Studio and run a first script.

Asterune Studio creates and edits local game projects. Use the home page to create a place, then add a script and run it in a playtest.

Prerequisites

Open Asterune Studio on your desktop. If you are using a source checkout, Building Asterune describes how to build and launch the editor.

Create a project

  1. On the Studio home page, select New Project.
  2. Choose a starting template under Start from.
  3. Enter the project Name. Review the destination shown under Location; select Change… to choose another parent directory.
  4. Select Create. Studio creates the project folder and opens its workspace. If the destination already exists and is not empty, choose another name or location. If creation fails, correct the error shown in the dialog and select Create again.

To continue an existing project, select it under Recent projects or select Open Project… and choose its folder. The folder must contain a Studio manifest, a game manifest, or a place source directory. See Projects and places.

Add a script

  1. In Explorer, right-click Workspace and choose Insert. Select Script from the class list.
  2. Open the script from Explorer and replace its source with the example in Your first script.
  3. Select Home → Save to write the project to disk.
  4. Select Test → Play. The example creates an anchored part named ExamplePart at position (0, 5, 0).
  5. Select Test → Stop to end the playtest. Runtime instances belong to the playtest snapshot; they are not saved back into the authored project.

If the part does not appear, open Test → Output and inspect the script error. Check the source against the example and confirm that the Script is under Workspace, then start another playtest.
