Reserved capacity and commitments

Reserved capacity and commitments

Separate discounted usage commitments from explicit physical capacity holds.

Reserved-capacity agreements apply an approved commercial commitment to eligible hosted usage. A discounted commitment and an explicit hardware capacity reservation are separate records.

Review eligibility

Under Organization → Billing → Commitments, inspect region, resource class, quantity, term, effective dates, and permitted project allocation. The agreement defines which compute usage qualifies and how unused commitment is billed.

An existing droplet qualifies only when its actual regional class and usage meet those terms. Renaming a resource or changing a cost label cannot convert an ineligible class into eligible usage.

Allocate a commitment

Assign permitted quantities to projects or teams and review the available balance. Allocation changes future attribution according to the agreement; it does not rewrite an issued invoice or resize a running guest.

Concurrent usage can exhaust the eligible quantity. Additional usage follows its applicable rate. Spot, storage, transfer, and address charges remain separate unless the agreement explicitly includes them.

Physical holds

When a deployment needs held physical headroom, request a supported capacity reservation for a region, pool, size, and duration. Its status distinguishes requested, held, consumed, and expired capacity.

A pricing commitment alone does not guarantee a compatible live-migration destination. A physical hold also remains subject to the declared CPU, zone, and hardware constraints. Inspect the actual held resources before maintenance.

Expiry and changes

Expiring a price commitment changes future billing eligibility without stopping guests. Expiring an unused physical hold releases its admission reservation. Running resources keep their own lifecycle and usage charges.

Cancellation and amendment follow the agreement's terms. Deleting a local allocation label cannot cancel the commitment. See usage, capacity planning, and spend caps.

Standard discounts

The standard compute rate card defines eligible commitment terms and discount percentages. Spot and subscription annual discounts follow separate rules and do not stack on the same compute usage.
